ISSY-LES-MOULINEAUX, France (AP) -Two-time Grand Slam champion Amelie Mauresmo retired from tennis Thursday, saying she no longer had a burning desire for competition.

The 30-year-old Frenchwoman is a former No. 1 player who finished this season at No. 21.

``I don't want to train anymore,'' Mauresmo said after shedding tears about the decision. ``I had to make a decision, which became evident in the last few months and weeks. When you grew older, it's more difficult to stay at the top.''

Spain completed a 5-0 Davis Cup final victory over the Czech Republic today as Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer eased to straight-sets wins.

Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez ensured Spain would retain the trophy by winning the doubles rubber yesterday, meaning today's singles were reduced to best-of-three-set affairs.

Czech captain Jaroslav Navratil opted to rest his top singles players, Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych, after two matches in as many days but Spain skipper Albert Costa stuck with his original picks.

World number 102 Jan Hajek put up some resistance against Nadal, while doubles specialist Lukas Dlouhy was defeated 6-4 6-2 by Ferrer.

After Nadal and Ferrer's singles victories on Friday – the latter after coming from two sets and a break down to beat Radek Stepanek – Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano López teamed up to beat Stepanek and Tomas Berdych 7-6 7-5 6-2. The triumph prompted scenes of jubilation, Verdasco and López collapsing to the court before joining their team-mates in a victory huddle.

This morning, Nadal won the first of the reverse singles matches, beating Jan Hajek 6-3 6-4 to stretch Spain's lead to 4-0 in the best-of-five final before Ferrer completed the whitewash.
