Using Photoshop CS.
Involves curves & selective colouring.
PSD file included :)

1. Crop your base, preferably a brightly coloured one.

2. Create a Color Balance layer. Set color levels to -8, +10, 0.

3. Create a Selective Color layer.
Reds: -100, 0, +60, 0
Yellows: +25, 0, +15, 0
Neutrals: -21, -12, -42, +18
Set the layer opacity to 80%.

4. Fill new layer with #092B8C. Set to exclusion, opacity of 60%.

5. Paste your base here. Set to soft light.

6. Create a Hue/Saturation layer. Set saturation to +35.

7. Fill new layer with #FFFFFF. Set to soft light, opacity of 60%.

8. Fill new layer with #E1A57A. Set to soft light, opacity of 100%.

9. Fill new layer with #8AB4D1. Set to soft light, opacity of 100%.

10. Fill new layer with #8AB4D1. Set to color burn, opacity of 100%.

11. Create a Curves layer. In the drop down box, click Blue.
Input 100, Output 83
Input 176, Output 193
(There should be two points.)

12. Create a Brightness/Contrast layer.
Brightness +7
Contrast +10

Done! For all the beautiful lazy people, here's a .psd file to download. I definitely recommend playing with all the settings to get the right colouring. If you need help/didnt understand anything, please ask.

Hope it was helpful :)

edit: 26/11/09 - psst!

*grin* Sorry, couldn't resist showing you what else I did, also with Keira... ^_^ The tut. works great with any sort of image by the looks with it, even if just with a tiny li'l bit of tweaking.

i have a question, is there a way to do the selective coloring part without selective coloring?
LT.: safin ; glory[info]sheld0n on February 8th, 2007 09:48 am (UTC)
The result doesnt actually look too different without selective coloring:

It just doesnt have the purplish tinge. I'm told Color Balance could work for it. Good luck =)
